General Traffic Control Permit Application

Traffic control permit application for projects not related to CIP, Franchise, Water/Sewer service repair, or Chase Drain installation/Curb Cuts.

Application Information

Traffic control plans are required to show all dimensions of tapers, work zones, activity areas, detour routes, etc. Minimum review for traffic control permit applications is 14 calendar days. After the traffic control plans are reviewed and finalized, an invoice with the payable fee will be sent to the applicant. Once payment is received the traffic control permit will be issued. Payments received after 3PM will be processed the following business day.
Applicants of High Impact traffic controls permits are required to notify businesses at least 5 days in advance of traffic control setup and provice documentation of notification methods and entities to be notified.
  • Full roadway closure or full intersection closure
  • Restriction of turning movements at an intersection or at an access
  • Lane closures resulting in a reduction of capacity greater than 50%
  • Lane closures with extended permitted hours
  • Locations with higher multi-modal activity (schools, key destinations, RTD stations, etc.)
  • Other sensitivecircumstances (at the discretion of Traffic Engineer or designee)

  • Lane and full closures are permitted 8:30am – 3:30pm, M – F unless otherwise approved by the city’s Traffic Engineering and Operations division.
  • Alternative hours or further time restrictions may be required for traffic control in close proximity to schools or other sensitive areas as determined by the city’s Traffic Engineering and Operations division.
  • Night and weekend traffic control may be permitted pending review and approval by the city’s Traffic Engineering and Operations division.

Compliance Agreement

The undersigned hereby certifies that I/we agree to assume any and all responsibility and to abide by all rules, regulations and conditions as set forth in the city of Thornton rules, regulations, conditions and stipulations (refer to next page) of this permit, and codes for traffic control. The undersigned shall follow the manual on uniform traffic control devices, latest edition, as it relates to this permit and special conditions. If any requirements or conditions of this permit are not in compliance, the permit shall be revoked by order of the traffic engineer. I/we agree to vacate the right-of-way as directed by the traffic engineer.
